Biography

All about Me:

The 2021-2022 school year is my 18th year of teaching 7th grade for the Omaha Public Schools.  I have taught over 2,500 7th graders in my time with OPS.  That is A LOT of middle schoolers!  =)

I am an optimist in most situations because I realize that oftentimes the only things someone can control is their own attitude, actions, and mindset. I actively try to model having a growth mindset for my students as that can be beneficial to many of life's circumstances and events.

One of my goals is to consistently model kindness, patience, and gratitude with my students. A little kindness can go a long way. . .

I work DILIGENTLY for my students to ensure they have a quality learning experience in Social Studies-which really is one of the BEST subjects =)

When lesson planning, I actively "chunk"  most lessons into 15 minute sections.  I plan for brain breaks, such as "Mimic Siemek" and other movement based 3-5 minute "breaks" within the class period. Ninety minutes per class can be a LONG time for kiddos. I try to manage my classroom with fairness, consistency, and a little but of humor (it goes a long way) but never with sarcasm.  In my experience working with large groups of middle schoolers, I have found that "firm but fair" seems to be the way to manage. I believe in thanking kiddos and reinforcing positive behaviors. If I make a mistake and realize it, I take ownership of my mistake and apologize.

Please contact me if you have any questions/concerns as we move through the academic year, I respond to all parent/guardian or student requests within 24 hours during week/workdays.

Note: I do not check school emails once I leave Davis for the day because I believe in quality family time and personal time (not spent on screens).  Most school days I am working, working, working well after duty hours end at 3:25 pm.   I will get back to parents/guardians or STUDENTS the following day when I have my plan time in the morning.
